DEPARTMENT OF TURKİSH LANGUAGE AND LİTERATURE
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature is one of
the first departments that was opened in the Faculty of Letters and Science in
newly founded Balıkesir University in 1992. The department was opened in 1993
and in 1997 gave its first graduates.
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature offers a
program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. The department offers a course
selection that examines the Turkish language and literature in all its
complexity. The program aims to prepare students for success in their
professional lives and in further academic study. Preparing students to
investigate other Turkish dialects and literatures at a sufficient level is
another goal of department.
Registration of 42 students to A and B branches of first year
(a total of 84) was realized in the 2004-2005 Education-Instruction year. A four
year education is applied in the department.
Post-Graduate studies in the level of masters and doctorate
are also offered in the department.

Professor Dr. Mehmet Narlı, Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Özsarı, Assistant
Professor Dr. Salim Çonoğlu, Assistant Professor Dr. Kahraman Bostancı. Also 6
research assistants are of great help in all aspects of education process in
department. They are Yusuf Özçoban, Haluk Aydın, Halil İbrahim Şahin, Zeynep
Şimşek Umaç, Gülfiye Bülbül, Gizem Akyol, Aslı Büyükokutan. |

The graduates earn the title of “Philologist in Turkish”. When they get their masters degrees (MA without thesis) they can work in high schools as teachers of Turkish Language and Literature. |
