The Department of Turkish Language and Literature is one of the first units of the Faculty of Science and Letters, which began operating upon the establishment of Balıkesir University in 1992. Our department, which began education and training in 1993, graduated its first students in 1997.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, a total of 13 faculty members, including eight professors, two associate professors, and three assistant professors, and three research assistants, two of whom are doctors, are working in our department. Our department continues its education and training activities at the master's and doctoral levels. In addition to well-equipped classrooms, the Department has the İnci Engin Donation Library and the Department Seminar Library.
Graduates of our department can be appointed as Turkish Language and Literature teachers in high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, provided they obtain a pedagogy certificate.
Our department, along with other units of our faculty, moved to its building at the Çağış Campus starting from the Spring Semester of the 2005-2006 Academic Year. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, our department's second education program has also been closed.
